No fee hike yet in Kogi State University, says VC
A government panel recommended N100,
000 as fee for students of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Kogi State
University , Professor Hassan Isah, said
on Saturday in Anyigba that the institution
had not increased tuition fees.
Mr. Isah, who spoke to reporters during a
facility tour of the university, dispelled
rumours of 150 per cent increase in
tuition fees.
He, however, explained that the State
Government had inaugurated a visitation
panel to evaluate fees being charged in
the school and make recommendation on
appropriate fees.
The university boss said that a
government white paper was issued in
March, which suggested that tuition fees
should be increased in the institution.
“The white paper is a proposal. As we
speak, it has not been implemented. His
Excellency is in dialogue with relevant
stakeholders on the matter,” he said.
The white paper suggested tuition fees of
N100, 000 for students in the state’s
university and N50, 000 for students of
the state’s colleges of education and
polytechnic.
On the recently established faculty of
medicine, the vice-chancellor said the
programme had taken off with 32
students. He said that the establishment
of the medical school was desirable as
doctor-patients ratio in the state was not
good enough.
Mr. Isah commended Gov. Idris Wada for
his favourable disposition to the university
and education in general, adding that the
institution with six faculties had
graduated 1,962 students since inception
in 1999.
He said that the current students’
population of the institution stood at
19,984, adding that the population was
expected to rise to about 23,000 after the
2013/2014 admission exercise.
