Group seeks bail for stowaway boy
De Raufs' Volunteer Group on Monday
formally applied to stand as surety for the
13-year old Daniel Oikhena, who was
arrested after emerging from the wheel
compartment of an Arik Air plane after a
flight from Benin airport to Lagos on
August 24.
Oikhena, who, according to reports, has
been in the custody of the State Security
Service, had outrun the security personnel
at the Benin airport to catch the flight to
Lagos.
De Raufs', had offered Oikhena
scholarship up to university level to help
him realise his dream of traveling by air
legitimately.
The Director-General of the group,
Amitolu Shittu, who confirmed the
development on Monday, said a team of
lawyers of the group, led by Yinka Muyiwa
and Nafiu Adeniyi, was at the Shangisha
office of SSS to apply for administrative
bail for Oikhena.
When asked on what transpired at the
SSS office, Shittu said: "Yes, the SSS
officials told our lawyers that the boy was
not detained but was merely delayed for
security reasons, and we want to believe
them. They are asking that the mother of
the boy should come for him and that he
would be released today (Monday).
Meanwhile, barely two weeks after the
Daniel incidence, another airport
trespasser has been apprehended.
The trespasser, Mr. Leroy Ugaga, aged 25
years, was arrested on Monday by a joint
patrol team of the Federal Airports
Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian air
Force.
Giving details of his arrest, FAAN said the
trespasser was caught loitering around
the airport as he attempted to gain entry
into the airside facility.
