Police rescue 2 kids, 4 others from kidnappers in Delta

The Police in Delta State on
Wednesday said it rescued six kidnapped
persons, including a mother and her
two kids, from their captors on Obiaruku
Road, Obinoba.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the
State, Lucky Uyabeme, told newsmen in
Asaba that the victims were rescued on
Tuesday.
He said they were kidnapped around
Ekpoma and Igbanke towns in Edo and
were being taken them to an unknown
destination in Delta when the police
intercepted them.
Mr. Uyabeme named the woman as Glory
Barry and her children: Zoryii, 3, and
Oremene, 2.
“Police received information that some
suspected kidnappers operating in a sky
blue Siena bus, red Nissan Primera and
red Kia Cerato cars kidnapped some
persons around Ekpoma and Igbanke
towns in Edo and headed toward Delta.
“Sequel to the information, the Special
Anti-kidnapping Unit went in search of the
hoodlums and intercepted them at
Obinoba,” he said.
The spokesperson said the police had a
gun duel with the suspects during which
the kidnappers were forced to abandon
their victims.
He said the hoodlums escaped with the
Cerato car, and the six persons rescued
unhurt are: Aiwehoe Walter, Igbinedion
Vincent,  Cyrracus Osigwe, Glory Barry,
three-year-old Zoryii Barry and Oremene
Barry,” he said.
He said that a police officer, who
sustained bullet injury on his leg during
the incident, was in a stable condition and
responding to treatment at an undisclosed
hospital.
Mr. Uyabeme said that items recovered
from the hoodlums included the two
vehicles and two handsets.
The spokesman said that police was on
their trail and would intensify effort to
arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that the
case would soon be transferred to the Edo
Police Command for further
investigations.
He restated the command’s commitment
to fighting criminals and called for the
support of the people of the state to
enable the police to succeed.
