Farmers blame rainfall for high cost of garri
Farmers in Boki Local Government Areaof Cross River on Wednesday blamedexcessive rainfall for the high cost ofgarri in the area. They made the remark in separateinterviews with the News Agency ofNigeria (NAN) in Boki, Cross River State. The President of Boki FarmersAssociation, Richard Abang, said the priceof garri had risen because farmers had toprocess the commodity under the rain.Mr. Abang said that during the rainyseason, it was difficult to produce a basinof garri, adding that so much water hadentered into the body of the cassava, thereby making it difficult to harvestenough tubers to produce a basin. During the dry season, it takes fewtubers of cassava to produce a basin ofgarri, but it is not so in the rainy seasonwhen you need to harvest enough tubersin order to produce a basin of garri, hesaid.According to him, there are fears that theprice of a basin of garri will increase fromN4, 500 to N5, 000 before the end of therainy season.A basin of the yellow garri currently sellsfor N4
